Bergen Belsen

I went there after a visit to the 17/21 Lancers - all members of the party just stopped talking the minute we walked through the gates.

When i went there i noticed, there seemed to be no birds singing, even though it was a loverly spring day?

Also i saw several german familys eating food while sat on grave mounds

I used to go to Belsen every year, sometimes twice - not quite a pilgrimage but to pay my respects. I was in Celle for four years and on 5 or 6 occasions, I never heard a bird at all. This was ruined for me on my last trip. I was on the way out and the dratted birds started as if to make up for the previous trips. No one seems to go to the Soviet graves, situated behind the main memorial wall. These POWs fared worse than any one else - according to the literature. Those that got back to the USSR were promptly sent to GUlag by Uncle Joe for fraternizing with the West.
