Hewitt, William Arthur. 2nd Lieutenant 9th Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers died 1st July 1916 on the first day of the battle of the Somme aged 23. Son of James H. and Jeannie D. Hewitt, of Altamont, Bangor, Co. Down. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France. His brothers Ernest Henry Hewitt and Holt Montgomery Hewitt also fell.

His aunt, Georgina E Mahaffy was granted a war gratuity on the 1th November 1917 revised on the 17th October 1919. At rest in Vraucourt Copse Cemetery, Vaulx-Vraucourt, France.
