your right again Boss,

252 Squadron was formed in May 1918 from Nos.495, 507, 508 and 509 Flights at the former RNAS station at Tynemouth and operated three flights of D.H.6s on coastal reconnaissance duties until the end of the war. On 30 June 1919, the squadron disbanded.

On 21 November 1940, No.252 reformed at Bircham Newton as the first Coastal Command Beaufighter Squadron receiving its first operational aircraft in December, although part of the squadron strength remained Blenheims until April 1941, fully-equipped Coastal Beaufighters having begun to arrive in March. In April it moved to Northern Ireland for convoy patrols and on 1 May dispatched fifteen of its aircraft to Gibraltar, en route for hard pressed Malta. Training and patrols continued from Ulster until all remaining aircraft were passed to 143 Squadron on 15 June 1941, leaving the Mediterranean detachment to become the whole squadron. Attacks on enemy shipping and coastal targets in the Eastern Mediterranean from the bases in Egypt were carried out in concert with 272 Squadron, under whose wing No.252 operated until becoming independent again on 14 November 1941. After the capture of Libyan airfields early in 1943, the squadron flew anti-shipping sweeps over the waters around Greece and Crete and in February 1945, moved to Greece where, in addition to sweeps over the Aegean and air-sea rescue duties, it supported ground troops against Communist forces attempting to seize the country after the German withdrawal. After their defeat, No.252 remained in Greece until disbanded on 1 December 1946.
