Basil Newton John PRICE. Flying Officer, Navigator, 137473, 576 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve
Son of Thomas Henry John (marine engineer) and Elizabeth of 14 New Street, Newtown, Sharpness, Gloucestershire. Grandson of Thomas Henry and Sarah Price.
Killed in action 14th January 1944 aged 22.
Commemorated on his grandparents memorial in Berkeley Cemetery, Berkeley, Gloucestershire. Buried in Hanover War Cemetery, Niedersachsen, Germany

Some notes from the service records of Sergeant R 17931 Rodney Lewis McManus Royal Canadian Air Force.

Sgt. Munn D.U., and crew were detailed to operate 1ancaster M& 585 H. 2 against BRUNSWICK on the night o 14.th/15th January,
1944. The aircraft left base at the appointed tine, and since then nothing has been heard of either the aircraft or crew.

D.P.S.
No.576 Squadron reported that Lancaster aircraft, ME.585, with a crow of 7, failed to return from an operational attack on Brunswick. It left base on the night of the l4th/l5th. January, 1944, after which no further news was received. (End. 3 and s).
2. A telegram from the I.R.C.C. quoting German information, states that Sgt. McNanus was killed on the 14th. January, 1944. (End. 12).
3. A further telegram from the IOR.C.C. quoting German information states that he was buried on the 15th. January, 1944, in the Cemetery Bruchhausen/Beverungen. (End. 13).
4. An extract from official German totenliste No.200, states that Sgt. McManus was killed between the 12th. and 15th. January, 1944, and buried on the 14th. January, 1944, at Bruchhausen, Beverungen District. In view of the time and date of take-off and in view of paragraphs two and three, it is assumed that the date of death should read the 14th. January, 1944, and that the date of burial stated on totenliste No.200 is incorrect and should read the 15th. January, 1944. (End. 14 and is).
5. It is accordingly submitted that the death of GAN/R179312
SGT. R.L. MCMANUS, be presumed, for official purposes, to have occurred on the 14th. January, 1944.
