NEVE Basil Hovenden. Chief Engine Room Artificer 2nd Class. 270424 HMS, Pathfinder Born 26 June 1875 at Wood Green, London to Julius Robert and Isabelle Emma, nee Higham of the Post Office and Drapers, High Street, Chipping Campden. Husband of Ellen Ronaldson, nee Ley of 80 Rainham Road, Chatham was informed of his death. He enlisted 17 April 1901 on HMS Pembroke II for a period of 12 years. He resided at Wood Green, London civilian occupation, Fitter. Distinguishing marks, scars left wrist and knee. He served and many ships, HMS being his last. He was killed at sea 5/9/1914 aged 39 when his ship was torpedoed by a German Submarine off St Abbs Head, North Sea. He crossed the bar that day Commemorated on the Chatham Naval Memorial, Kent. There is brass plaque for this person in St James Church, Chipping Campden.
