To the glory of God and in ever grateful memory of the men of this parish Askrigg who gave their lives in the Second World War

1939 - 1945​

BROWN Walter Arnold. Trooper 14508382, 11th Hussars, Royal Armoured Corps died 26th December 1944 aged 27. Son of Edward Robert and Annie Brown, of Bainbridge, Yorkshire. Wills and Admin, Ancestry,co.uk. He lived at Gill Edge Farm, Bainbridge near Askrigg, died on war service. His effects went Annie Brown, his mother, widow. At rest in Jonkerbos War Cemetery, Gelderland, Netherlands.

COCKBONE George Daykin. Pilot Officer, Pilot, 139483 175 Squadron, Royal Air Force died Wills and Admin, Ancestry.co.uk. He lived at Spice Gill Dent near Sedbergh Yorkshire died on war service 19th June 1943. His effects went to Beatrice Cockbone, widow.

HINDLE Jack. Corporal 7360813 Royal Army Medical Corps attached. 6/10th e Royal Welch Fusiliers, Parachute Regiment, Army Air Corps died 4th June 1944 aged 25. Son of Lewis James and Harriet Louise Hindle husband of Irene Hindle, of Askrigg, Yorkshire. Wills and Admin, Ancestry.co.uk. He lived at Nappa Hall near Askrigg died 4th June 1944 in Central Mediterranean. His effects went to Irene Hindle, widow. In 1911 his parents were living at 5 Halifax St Marton, Blackpool Lancashire. Commemorated on the Cassino Memorial, Italy.

KIRKBRIDE Sidney Chapman. Pilot Sergeant 566117, 37th Squadron Royal Air Force died 15th July 1940 aged 24. Son of Thomas and Isobel Kirkbride; husband of Kathleen Mary Kirkbride, of Bradford, Yorkshire. At rest in Becklingen War Cemetery, Soltau, Germany.

PERCIVAL Frank Vernon. Lieutenant (E) Royal Navy on HMS Barham died at sea 25th November 1941 aged 26. Son of Arthur and Caroline Percival, of Blackpool, Lancashire. B.Sc., Hons. (Lond.). Wills and Admin, Ancestry.co.uk. He lived at 61 Doncaster Road, Blackpool, Lancashire died on war service 25th November 1941. His effects went to his father Arthur Percival retired police superintendent. Commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial, Hampshire
