General, Arthur Simcoe BAYNES. Colonel of the 35th Sussex Regiment died 13th September 1875 aged 78. This monument is erected in remembrance of his goodness and affection as a husband by his afflicted and sorrowing widow, Elizabeth Baynes (Nee Semple) who died 20th August 1890 aged 83. (Wills and Admin, Ancestry) The Will of Arthur Simcoe Baynes formerly a Lieutenant Colonel unattached late of 11 Strada Mezzodi, Valetta, Malta, Colonel of Her Majesty's 35th Regiment of Foot and General in Her Majesty's Service died 13th September 1875 at Malta. His effects went to his widow, Elizabeth of the same address in Valetta. When he married Elizabeth in Dublin in 1830 he was named as Arthur Simcoe Francis BAYNES.
Both at rest in Ta Braxia Cemetery, Malta.

In Lunacy -
In the matter of ELIZABETH BAYNES, a person of unsound mind.
UNDER the provisions of the Lunacy Regulation Act, 1853, any person or persons claiming to be the heir or heirs at law of the said Elizabeth Baynes, Widow of the late General Arthur Simcoe Baynes, formerly of 6, Hume-street, Dublin, but now residing at Valetta, in the Island of Malta, or claiming to be the next-of-kin or to be entitled under the Statutes for the distribution of intestates estates (in case she were now dead intestate), to'her personal estate are forthwith by their Solicitor
to come in and prove their kinship or kindred before the 'Masters in Lunacy, at their chambers, at the Royal Courts of Justice, Strand, London, or in default thereof they will be precluded from the benefit of all proceedings in the above matter.—Dated this 29th day of January, 1890.
