Sergeant 6707 Arthur James BLOODWORTH Tunnelling Coy Royal Engineers.
Both his parents were married before. His mother Elizabeth, nee Groves married in 1869 Sidney Herbert Bloodworth who died in 1872. His brother Walter married Elizabeth in Stroud Registry Office in 1875.
Arthur was born 1882 and baptised 13 January 1882, only his mother was given as parents she resided at Lower Woodmacote, Dursley. 1891 with his parents Walter and Elizabeth Bloodworth and siblings at Woodmacote, Dursley, Gloucestershire. 1911 his parents were residing at Whiteway, Dursley
Enlisted 6 June 1900 into the 3rd Gloucestershire Regiment aged 18 years and 6 months and posted the 28th Depot Gloucestershire Regiment at Horfield Barracks, Bristol 8 June 1900. Resided at Vauxhall Road, Gloucester, occupation, Carpenter. Previously served in the 2nd Voluntary Bn. Gloucestershire Regiment. 20 September 1900 he enlisted (Embodied service from 26 July 1900 to 19 September 1900) into the Royal Engineers as Sapper 6707. His father was his next of kin and he was residing at Down View, Woodmacote, Dursley, Gloucestershire.
Promoted to Lance Corporal 10 July 1901 whilst serving with Brompton Barracks, Gillingham, Kent.
2 December 1903 extended his service to 8 years with the colors
1st April 1904 promoted to Corporal. 18 November
1904 posted 24 Coy in Gibraltar. He extended his service with the colors to 12 years 20 August 1908 Posted back to England 3 October 1910 to 10th (Railway) Company Royal Engineers, at Longmoor Camp, Hampshire occupation carpenter. He again extended his service to complete 21 year’s service with the colors 9 September 1912. Promoted to sergeant 8 January 1913. Posted to Malta 7 January 1914 and transferred to 24 Cot R.E. 9 January 1914. The 12 October 1914 he was initiated into Zetland Lodge (Freemason) Malta. Lodge number 515. Posted to England 29 December 1914.
He embarked for France 3 March 1915 and returned back to R E Depot at Chatham Kent 20 March
He was medically discharged aged 34 years to pension 21 October 1919 as being no longer physically fit for service to his permanent address at 3 Hartley Place Erith Road Bexley Heath Kent.
His disability was General Paralysis of Insane (caused by syphilis infection).
Died 9 November 1920 at Gloucester Asylum and laid to 12 November 1920 at St Marks Churchyard Woodmacote, Dursley, Gloucestershire.
