Extended Description
Arthur Donald FIELD. Signalman P/LD/X 4414 Royal Navy VR on H.M.S. Trawler, Bredon (T 223) whilst serving with 2nd Anti-submarine group based at Freetown.
Born 25 June 1918 at Finchley, Middlesex to Sidney and of Henrietta Field, nee Smith. Husband of Janette Kathleen Field, of Belfast.
1939 residing at 46 Woodhouse Road, Finchley, Middlesex with his mother and brother John.
Died at sea 8 February 1943 aged 24 as the result of the sinking of his ship by torpedoed from a U-Boat U-521 in the North Atlantic.
London Gazette dated 11 May 1943.

For devotion to duty in remaining at his post when H.M.S. Bredon was sunk. Mention in Despatches (Posthumous). Signalman Arthur Donald Field, LD/X.44I4.

Wills and Admin, Ancestry.
Residence 57 University Street, Belfast. Died on date stated. His effects went to his widow. £187 4s 2d.
Commemorated on Jane Cutter headstone in Old Priory Churchyard, Holywood County Down, Northern, also on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial, Hampshire.

Alfred George McDowell is also commemorated on this stone.
