Australian Fallen.

ADDY Edward. Lieutenant, 9th Battalion, Australian Infantry, died 18th August 1915, from sickness, aged 43 years. He was the son of Edward and Mary Ann Addy, and was the husband of Annie L. Addy, of 72 Magdalen Street, Colchester. Born Catfield, Norfolk. (Anzac Officer) At rest in Pieta Military Cemetery, Malta. His life for his country. His soul to his God.
ALLSEBROOK Gerald Gilbert Stanley. Private 1395, Private, 1st Clearing Hospital, Australian Army Medical Corps. Died from his wounds, 20th June 1915 on Hospital Ship, Sicilia at sea. At rest in Pieta Military Cemetery, Malta. Some notes from his army records.
He joined up at Hobart Barracks, Tasmania on the 21st September 1914 aged 20. He lived with his parents, William and Agnes Martha at 16 Star Street, Hobart, his occupation was a painter. He embarked Hobart for the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force via England on the 5th December 1915. He received a gun shot wound which resulted in a compound fracture to his left Tibia and Fibula while in action at Gallipoli. At some stage he was invalided to Malta on Hospital Ship, Sicilia where he succumbed to his injuries on the 20th June 1915.
ALWAY George William. Private 1116, Private, 23rd, Australian Infantry. Died of sickness, 14th November 1915, aged 41 years. He was the son of William and Matilda of Dyrham, Gloucestershire. At rest in Pieta Military Cemetery, Malta. Some notes from his army record. He joined up in Australia on the 1st October 1914 as Private 1116, 2nd Army Veterinary Section and discharged himself from this section on the 1st December 1914. He rejoined on the 5th January 1915 as Private 1116 and was posted into D Company, 23rd Battalion. He had previously served for 7 years in the Imperial Yeomanry. He gave two next of kin, both sisters. Mrs Mary Ellen Hayward of 15, Brookleage Buildings, Larkhill, Bath, formerly of 5, Eldon Place, Larkhill, Bath and the other Miss Bessie Alway of 67 Queen Street, South Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. While in Gallipoli he went sick , his complaint was not recorded but on the 12th November 1915 he was transferred to Malta on Hospital Ship Devemha, suffering from pneumonia. He was admitted into Floriana Military Hospital, Valletta, Malta where he died on the 14th November 1915. He was laid to rest the same day in Pieta Military Cemetery, Malta.
ANDERSON William Watt. Private 153, 19th, Australian Infantry. Died of dysentery, 30th October 1915, aged 20 years. The son of Robert.J. and Helen Anderson, of 75 Annfield Road, Dundee. He is at rest in Pieta Military Cemetery, Malta.
ARCHIBALD George Alfred. Private 558, C Company, 28th, Australian Infantry. Died of his wounds, 3rd October 1915. He joined up on the 17th March 1915 aged 23 years 2 months. Born at Ballarat, Victoria. Occupation boiler maker. Next of kin was his father William John of Yarloop, Western Australia.
He embarked from Fremantle on H.M.A.T. Ascanius on the 29th June 1915 bound for Alexandria. On the 4th September 1915 he embarked Alexandria bound for Gallipoli on H.T. Ivernia. On the 22nd September 1915 he received shrapnel l wounds to his head and right leg while in action on the Gallipoli peninsula. He was treated at 7th Field Ambulance, then transferred to 16th Casualty Clearing Station and same day 22nd transferred to Hospital Ship, Grampion, for Malta. He was admitted into Military Hospital, Tigne, Malta on the 2nd October and died on the 3rd October 1915 from wounds received in action and laid to rest on the 4th by Chaplin, H.T Wheeler. At rest in Pieta Military Cemetery, Malta.
BRADFORD Ray Percival. Private 2340, 10th, Australian Infantry. Died of sickness, 24th October 1915. He joined up on the 23rd March 1915 aged 19 years and 1 month. He was still serving with 74th Inf A Comp when he joined up. . He was born at Hackney, South Australia and his occupation was a painter. His next of kin was his mother, Mrs Eliza Bradford of Edwardstown, South Australia, previously of 5 Oxford Terrace, New Parkside, South Australia. On the 11th September 1915 he embarked for the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force on Kingstonian and he was taken on strength from Reinforcements at Gallipoli on the 17th September 1915. He was taken sick at Gallipoli on the 19th October 1915 and admitted into No 1 Casualty Clearing Station, Gallipoli with pyrexia He was transferred to Hospital Ship Soudan bound for Malta on the 19th October and admitted into Military Hospital, Imtarfa on the 24th October 1915 and he died the same same day of enteric fever. At rest in Pieta Military Cemetery, Malta.
BARNETT Patrick Bernard (Served as BENNETT). Bugler 1724, 4th Australian Infantry who died on the 27th September 1915 from wounds received in action aged 18 years and 10 months. This memorial was erected by his sorrowing mother. He was the son of Charles Bernard and Kathleen Josephine Barnett, of 87, Addison Rd., Hove, England. Born in London, England.
At rest in Pieta Military Cemetery, Malta. His memorial shows G B BENNETT Some notes from his army record. He joined up on the 16th February 1915 at Liverpool Camp, New South Wales and he was by occupation a labourer and mechanic. After he had completed his training he embarked for Gallipoli where he joined the 4th Infantry Battalion on the 3rd September 1915. On the 6th September 1915 he was shot through a lung whilst in action was treated at No 9 Australian Casualty Clearing Station at Basra. On the 12th September he was evacuated to Malta on a hospital ship and was admitted into Tigne Military Hospital the same day. He died from his wounds on the 27th September and was buried the next day in Pieta Military Cemetery.
BARRIE Alexander, Private, 1117, 28th, Australian Infantry. Died of his wounds, 10th October 1915, aged 22 years. The son of John and Margaret Barrie, of 8 York Terrace , Shettleston, Glasgow. Born at Parkhead, Glasgow. He enlisted at Blackboy Hill, Western Australia on the 28th May 1915. He was aged 22 years and 3 months, occupation, farmer. His next of kin was his brother, John, of Denmark, Western Australia, then his father John of 8 York Terrace, Shettleston. He embarked from Freemantle, Western Australia on H.M.A.T. Ascanius on the 29th June 1915 to Egypt. On the 4th September 1915 he embarked Alexandria for Gallipoli on H T Ivernia. Whie in action he was shot and wounded in his left hip on the 22nd September 1915 at Gallipoli Peninsular and treated at 7th Field Ambulance, then at No 16 Casualty Clearing Station, Gallipoli. The same day and was invalided to Malta on Hospital Ship, Grampion. The 2nd October 1915 he was admitted into Military Hospital, Tigne, Malta where he died on the 10th October 1915 at 3-30pm. He was laid to rest the following morning by Chaplin W Cowan in Pieta Military Cemetery, Malta
BEAUDOIN Thomas Andrew. Private 558, 14th Australian Infantry died 4th June 1915 in Malta. He enlisted at Melbourne, Victoria, Australia aged 30 years and 4 months. He was born at Dunolly, Victoria, Australian to Sarah Jane Beaudoin. He embarked from Melbourne on H.M.A.T. A38 Ulysses on the 22nd December 1914 to Turkey
He died in Malta of enteric fever (typhoid) he received at the Dardanelles. He was invalided from Gallipoli to Malta on the 24th May 1915 on Hospital Ship, Soudan. Imtarfa Military Hospital, admitted on the 24 May 1915 and died on the 4th June . He was laid to rest on the 5th June 1915 at Imtarfa Military Cemetery, Malta.
BEAVER Maxwell Keith. Private, 371, 4th Battalion, Australian Infantry. Died of his wounds to his thorax, 9th June 1915. Born at Muswellbrook, New South Wales to Edward William and Honorah Beaver. Born in Sydney, New South Wales. He joined up on the 20th August 1914 aged 20 years and 3 months, he was working in a flour mill prior to his enlistment. His next of kin was his father of 172 New Youth Head Road, Double Bay, Sydney, previous address was 33 Henry Street, Waverley, Sydney. He embarked for the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force on H.M.A.T. A14, Euripides on the 20th October 1914.
He was shot and wounded in the thorax at the Dardanelles and invalided to Malta on Hospital Ship, Soudan on the 25th May 1915 and admitted into Military Hospital, Valletta where he died of his wounds. At rest in Pieta Military Cemetery, Malta.
BERRY Andrew John. Corporal, 487, 19th, Australian Infantry. Died of his wounds, 11th September 1915, aged 26 years. He was the son of Archibald Campbell and Mary Jane Berry, of ‘Loch Lomond’, Saratoga, New South Wales. Born at Dubbo, New South Wales, Australia. He joined up on the 10th February 1915 aged 25 years, previous occupation, labourer. He joined up on the 11th August 1914 as Private 461, E Coy 1st Australian Naval and Military Expedition, New Guinea. He embarked from Sydney on the 19th August 1914 on H.M.A.T. Berrima to New Guinea. He was discharged on the termination of engagement 28th January 1915. He re-enlisted on the 15th February 1915 as Private 487 Australian Infantry He embarked at Sydney on H.M.A.T A40 Ceramic on the 25th June 1915 for the Dardanelles. He shot and wounded in the mouth at the Dardanelles and treated at 16th Casualty Clearing Station on the same day 25th August 1918. He was reported dangerously ill in hospital in Malta 0n the 4th September 1915 and he died on the 11th. At rest in Pieta Military Cemetery, Malta.
BLACKWELL Harold Ernest Rupert. Private, 186, 19th Battalion, Australian Infantry. He received a bomb wound to his leg back and abdomen in Gallipoli on the 15th October 1915, Transferred to Valletta on Hospital Ship, Fomosa Died of his wounds, 23rd October 1915, aged 26 years. and was buried the same day in Pieta Military Cemetery. The son of Ernest Valentine and Janet Mary Blackwell, of ‘Alberta’, Archer Street, Chatswood, New South Wales. Born at Narrabri, New South Wales. At rest in Pieta Military Cemetery, Malta. His brother, Trooper 376, John Milton Roy 5th, Australian Light Horse was killed in action at Gallipoli on the 28th June 1915. He is at rest in Shell Green Cemetery, Turkey.
BLAIN Arthur. Trooper, 541, 13th Australian Light Horse. Died of his wounds, 11th December 1915, aged 23 years. The son of John and Georgina Blain, of the Post Office, Kolora, Victoria, Australia. He died that we might live, not forgotten by those that loved him" At rest in Pieta Military Cemetery, Malta.
BRADY, Felix John. Private 1781, 18th Australian Infantry died 13th September 1915. He joined up on the 18th May 1915 aged 21 years and 11 months. He lived at North Sydney, and his occupation was a deck hand. His next of kin was his sister Miss Bertha Brady of 10 Paul Street, Milions Point, Sydney. His medals went to his eldest brother, P F Brady of Audley, Darwall Street, North Sydney.
On the 27th August 1915 he received a gun shot wound to his chest and shoulder and was treated at Mudros. He was treated at Anzac by the 16th Casualty Clearing Station. On the 5th September 1915 he was transferred to Hospital Ship, Nile at Mudros. On the 9th September 1915 he was admitted into Military Hospital, Floriana where he died of gun shot wound to the lung. on the 13th September 1915 He was laid to rest the following day at Addolorata Cemetery, Malta.
BREWER Gordon. Private, 558, 12th Battalion, Australian Infantry. Died of his wounds, 22nd August 1915, aged 24 years. The son of Harry and Jean Brewer, of Bulls Creek Road, Lower Mitcham, South Australia. At rest in Pieta Military Cemetery, Malta. Dearly loved, sadly missed, remembered by mother, sisters & brothers.
