Sydney George BARNFIELD. Private 33004, 2/4th Gloucestershire Regiment who died of wounds 21st April 1917 aged 24. Son of Thomas and Ada of 60. Ryecroft Street, Gloucester City. Commemorated on the memorial of Alfred George and Sarah Ann Barnfield at Ampney Crucis Cemetery. At rest in Brandhoek New Military Cemetery No 3, Belgium.

His brother Albert Wilfrid Private 31806, 7th Gloucestershire Regiment also died on the 2nd April 1919 aged 25. He is buried at Batoum British Cemetery and is also commemorated on the Haidar Pasha Memorial, Turkey

Wilfred BARTON. Lance Corporal 1887 Royal Gloucestershire Hussars. Son of Jane Barton, of "The Knowle," Ampney Crucis, Cirencester, and the late Edward Barton. Died 21 August 1915 aged 32. At rest in Green Hill Cemetery, Turkey (including Gallipoli).

Ernest William COOPER. Gunner 61238, 40th Siege Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery. Son of Charles and Jane Cooper, of Ampney Crucis, Gloucestershire. Died 4 August 1918 aged 23. At rest in Crouy British Cemetery, Crouy Sur Somme, Somme, France.

John DORAN John, Sergeant PY/13550, 2nd Royal Marine Light Infantry, Royal Navy Division, Born 9th September 1887 at Whitehaven, Cumberland enlisted 10th October 1905 and died 21st July 1916 aged 28. Son of William and Barbara of near Pound Tree, Ampney Crucis and a few houses from Frank Large who also fell. Husband of Clarice Doran of 13, Cheyne Place, Chelsea, London. Comemorated on a wooden memorial in the of Holy Rood, Ampney Crucis. At rest in Bully-Grenay Communal Cemetery, British Extension, France

John Charles EDWARDS. Corporal 26534, 10th Gloucestershire Regiment. Born 1892 to James H and Ellen Edwards of the Post Office, Ampney Crucis. Killed in action 16 March 1917 aged 25. His mother was granted a war gratuity 8 June 1917 revised 21 October 1919. Commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.

Reginald Charles FREEBURY. Private 17240, 1st Somerset Light Infantry. Born Son of James and Elizabeth Selina nee Sandle of 72 Whiteman Street, Swindon, Wiltshire Killed in action 1 July 1916 aged 21. His father was granted a war gratuity 11 November 1916 revised 23 September 1919. Commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.

Frederick GEEVES. Private 52158 1st Gloucestershire Regiment. Son of Daniel and Eliza Ann Geeves, of Ampney Crucis, Glos. Died 29 October 1918 aged 30. At rest in Ste Marie Cemetery, Le Havre, France.

Abel HERBERT. Private 2625, 12th Gloucestershire Regiment killed in action 5th May 1917 aged 33. Son of William and Mary of Quenington Road, Ampney St Mary, Gloucestershire Brother of James of Mill Cottages, Whelford, Gloucestershire. Commemorated on the Arras Memorial, France

Thomas (Tom)HOPKINS Tom Private [Driver] 89168, 3rd Battery, 47th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery killed in action 26th November 1917 aged 28. Son of Frederick and Martha of 7, Barton Lane, Cirencester. Native of Cirencester. At rest in Tyne Cot Cemetery, Belgium.

Cecil William HUMPHRIES. Private 24, 1st Gloucestershire Regiment. Son of Thomas and Augusta Alma Humphries, of 5, Barton Lane, Cirencester, Glos. Died 19 May 1915 aged 24. At rest in Railway Dugouts Burial (Transport Farm) Zillebeke Belgium.

Frank William LARGE. Corporal 8383, 1st Gloucestershire Regiment. Son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Large, of Ampney-Crucis, Cirencester, Glos. Killed in action 9 May 1915 aged 28. He was originally laid to rest in Edward Road Cemetery, No 2, Whose grave was destroyed in later battles. Now at rest in Cabaret Rouge British Cemetery, Souchez, France.

Ernest Frederick LARNER. Private 10841, 1st Royal Welsh Fusiliers killed in action 20th October 1914 aged 19. Son of Francis T and Mary E of Ackermaid Lane, Ampney Crucis [note BMD Marriage, 1894, shows Thomas Francis Larner to Margaret Ellen J nee Vines] Native of Ampney Crucis. Commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium

Rex Hamilton LEYLAND. Lieutenant Colonel. Commanding 2nd Rifle Brigade. Born 1885 to Frederick Dawson and of Sybil Leyland, of 79, Cromwell Road, South Kensington. Husband of Helen Mary Leyland, of Ampney Crucis, Gloucestershire. Died 24 September 1918 aged 33. At rest in Roclincourt Military Cemetery, France.

Richard POOLE. Private 51296, 3rd Worcestershire Regiment. Born 1899 at Ampney Crucis to Richard and Jane Poole. 1901 residing with his parents and siblings near Dudley, Ampney Crucis. 1911 residing with his parents and siblings at Malt Cottage, Ampney Crucis. Died 27 May 1918. His father was granted a war gratuity 3 February 1920. At rest in Marfaux British Cemetery, Marne, France.

Married in 1914 to Mary Alice Merry in Stoke on Trent. Killed in action 21 July 1916. His widow Mary Alice was granted a war gratuity 8 February 1915 revised 29 July 1919. This date she remarried 1918 at Stoke on Trent to Walter Berry. Commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.

Born 1890 at Winson Gloucestershire to Edwin and Mary Jane Soul, nee Frayling of Ampney Knowle, Cirencester. 1901 residing with is parents at Knowle Farm Cottages, Ampney Crucis. 1911 Driver with the Royal Horse Artillery stationed in Egypt. Killed in action 25 March 1918 aged 28. His father was granted a war gratuity 23 August 1918 revised 15 November 1919. Commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial, Somme, France

Frederick Charles SYMONDS. Private 23273, 4th Grenadier Guards. Born 1896 at Mile End, London to Christmas Charles and Emily, nee Coleman. 1901 residing with his parents and siblings at St John Road, Walthamstow, Essex, 1911 residing with his parents and siblings at Ampney Crucis. Died 27 September 1916 aged 21. At rest in Heilly Station Cemetery, Mericourt L’Abbe, Somme, France.

Philip Henry SYMONDS. Private 21087, 3rd Wiltshire Regiment. Born 1899 at Walthamstow, Essex to Christmas Charles and Emily, nee Coleman. 1901 residing with his parents and siblings at St John Road, Walthamstow, Essex, 1911 residing with his parents and siblings at Ampney Crucis. Died as the result on military action 31 March 1917 aged 18. At rest in Weymouth Cemetery, Dorset.

Silas John WHITEMAN. Private 7477, A Squadron, 1st King’s Dragoon Guards. Son of Silas and Mary Whiteman, of 40, Purley Road Cirencester, Glos. At rest in Sanctury Wood Cemetery, Belgium.

Harry William WHITMAN. Private Gloucestershire Regiment. Born 1882 at South Cerney, Gloucestershire to Edwin and Mary Ann Whitman, nee Hanks. 1891 residing with his parents and sister at Marston Hill, Marston Maisey, Gloucestershire. 8 November 1902 he married Fanny Iles at Ampney St Peter, Gloucestershire, occupation labourer. 1911 his parents were residing at Elcot End, Ampney Crucis. 1911 he nor his wife were found. He died of wounds at No 1 Clearing Hospital, Bethume 4 January 1915. His widow was granted a war gratuity 12 August 1915 revised 29 August 1919. She was called Fanny Sampson
