Honor Esme Howard BURROWES. Daughter of Marie (May) Ernestine Lucie, nee MacCormac and Alec Burrowes, Captain, Royal Garrison Artillery, born 9th March 1913, baptised 13th April 1913 died 7 April 1913.

At rest in Ta’Braxia Cemetery, Malta.

Some information about her father, Alec Burrowes -

Born 1884 at Southsea, Hampshire to Alice Sophia Howard, nee Wintle Alexander Leslie Scott Burrowes. Captain Royal Marine Artillery. In 1881 (prior to his birth) his parents were residing at St Ronan’s Road, Portsea, Hampshire. His father retired as Colonel, Royal Marine Artillery.
1911 he was aged 27 years, Lieutenant, serving with 65 Company, Royal Garrison Artillery stationed in Malta with his wife and daughter Lucy Leslie aged 2 years in married quarters in Malta.

His medal card shows he fought at Gallipoli 5 July 1915. Served as Captain Howitzer Section, Malta Detachment, Royal Garrison Artillery and Major 3rd Reserve Battery, Heavy Artillery, Royal Garrison Artillery. He was also Officer Command No 1 Station, Winchester.

National Archives, London have two records recording the following. His first wife filed for a divorce (File number 2486, petition for restitution of conjugal rights in 1920 and File number 8532 petition for divorce in 1921.)

Alec Burrowes of 54 New Street, St Davids, Pembrokshire died 15 November 1956 at Pembrokshire, Wales. His effects went to Victoria Marguerite Burrowes, widow.
