Agnes E Alpaugh - Death notice

Agnes Estelle ALPAUGH. Nursing Sister CAMC. of No 4 General Hospital France

Born 5 July 1891 to Robert and Catherine St James Alpaugh, of St. John's, Quebec. Enlisted 4 July 1918, posted to above named hospital. She was admitted on the 04 October 1918 into New Brunswick Military Hospital following two bouts of pleuro-pneumonia. She died at 8 pm, on the 12 October 1918 aged 27 of Double Pleuropneumonia.

Court of Inquiry into her death assembled at New Brunswick Military Hospital, Fredericton, New Bruinswick


Three witnesses gave evidence were all from the New Brunswick Military Hospital.

1st Witness. Nursing Sister L.B.Burns I “specialled” N/S Alpaugh for about three days previous to her death. She died on the twelfth day of October from pneumonia following a severe attack of the so-called Spanish Influenza. I was present at her death. Everything possible was done for her.

2nd Witness, Nursing Sister M.N.Kelly. Three day previous to the death of N/S Alpaugh I ordered N/S L.B. Burns to “special” her case. She died of pleuro-pneumonia following an attack of the so-called Spanish Influenza on the twelfth day of October 1918. Her Medical History shows that she had two attacks of pleuro-pneumonia. I was present at her death. Her personal effects are all packed and ready for disposal.

3rd Witness, Captain H.P. O’Neill. I was attending N/S Alpaugh all through her last illness and was present when she died. She was admitted to this hospital as a patient on the fourth day of October 1918, but had previously been confined to her bed for about four days. For the first days after admission, she was moderately ill but on the seventh day of October 1918 she became seriously ill and expired on the twelfth day of October 1918 of Pleuro-pneumonia.

Findings.
The court having heard the evidence are of the opinion the N/S/ Alpaugh died of pleuro-pneumonia following an attack of the so-called Spanish Influenza. The Court is also of the opinion that all possible medical aid was rendered her.

She is at rest in St.Jean-Sur-Richelieu Roman Catholic Cemetery, Quebec, Canada.
