The US Coast Guard probably does not get the attention it deserves, which is regrettable given its long service to the Nation in peacetime and war.
I ran across this rather atmospheric pic recently and liked it so much that I thought I'd share it here as a reminder of the Coast Guard's important role in the security of the Nation. This is an official USCG image. It shows a Coast Guardsman of the Maritime Safety and Security Team on patrol in the waters off New York City in November 2003. I think that is the Brooklyn Bridge in the foggy distance.
He is carrying a nice looking Remington M870. Semper paratus!
