I thought so also @Bombardier however, they appear to have a fairly eclectic mix of weaponry in the Vietnamese military. They have a fair mix of USA designed weaponry from the Vietnam War days that they manufacture locally. Learn something new every day!

Israeli media reported that the production of Israeli automatic rifles Galil ACE 31 (short model) and Galil ACE 32 under the license of the Israeli private company Israel Weapon Industries (IWI) was started in Vietnam. Both samples are produced under the Soviet cartridge 7.62x39 mm and are designed to replace the Kalashnikov assault rifles of the same caliber in the Vietnamese People's Army.

The USSR bought quite a lot of precision equipment from the countries of the west for the production of certain types of weapons
