Almost 400 Territorial Army (TA) soldiers from all over south west England were joined by Texas National Guard members for exercises on Salisbury Plain.

The exercise, called Galloping Wyvern, was the biggest conventional TA war exercise held in the region for five years.

It gave units from 43 (Wessex) Brigade training and practice in combined arms conventional war manoeuvres to better prepare them for operations overseas.

150 soldiers from the Texas National Guard (who fulfill aroughly equivalent to the speakingequivalent to American TA equivalent) also took in part in the exercise.
The soldiers spent almost 48 hours with virtually no sleep, carrying out reconnaissance and taking part in realistic battles using blank ammunition.

The main units involved were the Royal Wessex Yeomanry, The Rifle Volunteers, and 39 Signal Regiment (Volunteers). They were supported by 7 Regiment Army Air Corps (Volunteers), 100 Regiment Royal Artillery, 1 Assault Group Royal Marines, Bristol and Exeter University Officer Training Corps, and 4 Military Intelligence Battalion.

This is a prime example of why we like images to be uploaded to our servers. I managed to find an image to replace the one posted albeit small in size. If they are not hosted on our servers either in the media gallery or uploaded directly to your posts and the image isdeleted from your external image host it affects the continuity of the thread.

the picture is described as
