Bomber, it was for real!
There's a famous piece of footage of one of these bombarding a building. (I think it was an early war propaganda film)
It's the 15cm artillery cannon mounted on what I think was the Panzer I chassis, called the 'Schwere Infanteriegeschutz 331', or 'Sturmpanzer I B'
