MLRS firing the long-range Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) guided missiles. The ATACMS Block 1 missile, used during Operation Desert Storm, carries 950 baseball-sized M74 submunitions to ranges exceeding 165km. The Block 1A unitary missile has been developed by Lockheed Martin and was deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in March/April 2003.The Block IA missile range exceeds 300km by reducing the submunition payload and adding GPS guidance.
