Wehrmacht soldier in the ardennes offensive, this picture was taken from a captured film unit.... you can see a clip of this very solider if you watch the "World At War" documentry series. it is the "pincers" episode. You can see the look of pain and defeat in the eyes of the man, I have often wondered if the man in the picture surivied the war?? This was the picture the got me reading about the Battle of the bulge, I even have a copy of this picture hanging with my other military photos in my office. I would have to say that this is one of the more famouse picture from the battle of the bulge.

Hello

This photo shows NO wehrmacht-soldier...if you look exactly at his collar-tabs...you recognize he's a soldier of the waffen-ss.

It shows a soldier of the 12th SS-Panzerdivision "Hitlerjugend"

Good spotting mate but I can't see what I'm meant to be looking for. Is it that button thing on his collar?
Welcome, by the way!

I think he means directly behind the dagger handle..certainly does look like the SS emblem.

Good spot, Ronny25, can just see the SS-Runes on his collar behind the knife. The knife looks very like a Fairbairn-Sykes fighting knife too. BUT,
how do you know he's Hitlerjugend? I can't see any clues for that!

hello

I had make a mistake, this men is not an soldier of the 12.SS-Panzerdivision "Hitlerjugend", he was an soldier of the 1.SS-Panzerdivision "Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler"!

Exactly an soldier of "Kampfgruppe Hansen", part of the Panzergrenadier-Regiment 1 of "LSSAH" under the command of SS-Obersturmbannführer Max Hansen at the battle of the bulge.

This Photo is often published in german books about the waffen-ss and shows the men after the ambush at poteau.

The soldier wears an us-raincoat (didn't know the exactly word) over his regular ss-camouflage-battledress and an us-colt1911.

This Photo was the source for the scale-model-figure of Dragon.

Schütze (Kampfgruppe Hansen) 1944

More pictures of Kampfgruppe Hansen at the ambush of the 14th cavalry group at poteau/belgium.

the man in the foreground written a book about his wartime, he is an Alsatian(Elsass/Alsace)
booktitle: "SS-Beutedeutscher: Weg und Wandlung eines Elsässers" ISBN: 3921730066
