Chinook Northern Ireland

A Chinook unloading sandbags during operation Loren, Fermangh,Northern Ireland.

These are beasts to be underneath - I got blown over with half a dozen blokes waiting to board on Thetford Training Area - bloody noisy too!

They say that the down force from a Chinook is over 100 mph. There is a report saying that a number of years ago the down force for one knocked over a ISO container in the Falklands, killing a member of the ground crew.

I was told in the hover it had a downdraught of 50 mph and you could hear it from at least 5 miles away.
