  2. My elder brother was out there at that time and when I joined the army he took me to one side and for the first time, he told me about his time out there and what it was like. When I wanted to enlist, the Suez crisis was on and President of Egypt Gamal Abdel Nasser's was threatening England France and Israel with conflict. Jim was trying to talk me out of joining because he knew what it would be like. Im sorry to say that Jim died a week before Christmas.

    RIP brother

Sad to say I missed this one
I am sorry about your brother mate.
My dad was a Para at the time of the Suez Crisis and was taken ill so never got there although he talked about his mates a lot.
If I recall he told me about Paras being killed as they landed and lots of other nasty stuff they did.
Your brother was a wise man trying to talk you out of it.
