The memoir of Harry Patch, who at 110 years old, is the last British soldier alive to have fought in the trenches of the First World War. As told in numerous interviews with the author, Richard Van Emden. An intelligent, articulate man, Harry tells his life story, from his childhood in rural Edwardian England, through service in both World Wars, as a soldier in WWI when he was wounded in 1917 and as a member of the AFS in WWII, fighting fires caused by bombing in his beloved Somerset. The book also covers his personal and professional life up to the present.
A thoroughly enjoyable read, a wonderful book about a remarkable man. Recommended.
