A year after losing his left leg in Iraq a U.S.Marine is back in the war zone in Ahghanistan. Twenty one year old Cpl. Garrett Jones lost his leg July 23rd 2007 by a roadside bomb in Fallouja.
He is back with his old unit & stated he wanted to pave a path for other amputees & show them what's possible. This article was in the Los Angeles Times Aug. 6th 2008 and goes on to say there are sixty two servicemen who have lost limbs that are back serving on active duty. It also stated that approximately 900 of the 33,000 U.S. wouinded in Iraq & Afghanistan have lost at least one limb.
Staff Sgt. Michael Ortiz says "Jones neither demands nor receives special treatment". "He's amazing----he can do anything" said Cpl Paul Savage in the same unit, 2nd Bn 7th Marine Regt.
