we all know the story of Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg (http://www.militaryimages.net/photopost/showphoto.php/photo/3789/password//sort/1/cat/500/page/1)
and how Hitler escaped death,
but how many people realise this was not the first attempt on Hitlers life.
Johann George Elser (http://www.militaryimages.net/photopost/showphoto.php/photo/3788/password//sort/1/cat/500/page/1) had tried in 1923.
if he had killed Hitler what would the world be like now.
no problems in Palestine (no jewish state as the Jews would not have become a displaced race.)
no Yugoslavia as Marshal tito would not have united the area to fight against the Nazi's.
can anyone think of any more.

Most important for me, no Crystal Nacht and no Holocaust.
On a more asthetic point, what about all the art treasures, gold bullion and other looted items which disappeared without trace during WW2?

Posibly no former Warsaw Pact, no Communist China, No communist Cuba................
But what shape the far east? Japanese expansion would have gone ahead whatever, would Britain and the Us still have clashed with Japan?
Or................HUGE IF....................Had Edward VIII not abdicated - he was seriously pro-Nazi, a traitor to his own throne...............
IF?
Would this forum be called MilitarischBild.net anyway?

I see where you're coming from Rob, but without Hitler, would Nazism have flourished?
In my opinion, The Establishment would not have let Edward be crowned anyway, as long as he insisted on marrying 'that woman'.

Yes, I see your point, but all of the various assasination attempts were big "ifs".
Even assuming we had got as far as war with the country under Chamberlain/George VI - look at the possibilities for Spring 1940, if even under Winston Chrchill, the coalition goverment had decided to go with Lord Halifax and make peace with Hitler. Hitler could then have had a clear run over Europe/Russia un-hindered.
Whatever - I still see us in a situation of War with Japan in the Far East.

Yes, but going back to the original post hitler would be dead in 1923, so where would history have take us, no Hitler no Nation Socialist Party, no invasion of poland, no invasion of Poland no war, or would there have been.

Yes, OK - point taken. However..............we would still have been stuck possibly with a weak king, and there is still the Far East problems. I also think that National Socialism in Germany might have happened anyway.
Just to throw another thought into the mix:
What would have happened to the German economy with no Hitler after 1923?
