ROSS KEMP IN AFGHANISTAN.

Ross Kemp is an English actor knows for his roll as ‘Grant’ in EastEnders on UK TV and as Sergeant Henry ‘Henno’ Garvie in the SAS TV show Ultimate Force.

Monday night is the first of five episodes when Ross goes out with our troops in Afghanistan. He spent two months training with the lads of the 1st Battalion of the Royal Anglian Regiment with whom his father once served.

Ross then went with the troops to the lawless Helmand province of Afghanistan and found himself in the thick of it when he and four other soldiers were ambushed by Taliban fighters while walking through a poppy field.

He said “No matter how many training sessions I did, it still did not prepare me for the actual thing. Bullets whizzed between my arm and body and passed my head, I thought I was going to die. I was so scared that I actually wet myself. Three of the young boys I met were killed by friendly fire; they were only 18 years old. When I returned to England I met their parents and that was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to face.”

“No one appreciates what it’s like for those lads in war zones. Many are only 18 – they’re still babies. A lot of people in Britain don’t want to accept what is going on, but we should do, because it’s our boys’ out there.”

Looking forward to it, Silky. I saw some preview clips of it tonight and he was right up there with the lads.
