Prison officers face disciplinary action for organising Poppy Day collection

Two prison officers face disciplinary action for collecting money for a
Remembrance Sunday tribute.

Steve Baines and Paul Leigh, warders at Walton Jail in Liverpool, have
been warned they are in breach of prison rules because of the £400 staff
whip round.

Traditionally the prison has paid for a wreath to be laid at Liverpool's
Remembrance service at St John's Gardens by uniformed off duty officers.

Officers and prisoners died when the prison was bombed in World War II.

Since when did the letter of the law or rule mean that you totally ignore the intent of the law or rule ? I'm sure that these two steadfast employees of HMP Liverpool are not examples of criminal or disrespectful behavior towards the Crown, rather they are shining examples of what any good government agency should want to hold up as exemplary conduct. Why should the prison get credit for something that the same prison refused to do ? I'm sure that Remembrance Sunday is about people such as who these two warders represent, not people like those behind this shameful decision. Why would you disregard 57 years of good service between these two men. Is the correct decision that difficult to understand ? What's the right thing to do ?

Its easy for me to say but my response would be "then discipline me you bunch of idiotic prats, if respecting the service of our brave lads and lasses and the deaths of civilians during the wars is wrong?, then feck you all"
