I take great exception to the following article published yesterday by the Associated Press. Actually, I take great offense at the article, both content and intent, and the position by Doris Lessing is I believe one that is both misguided and arrogrant. I don't for a minute believe that America is naive, or pretends to be. Isn't she comparing apples to oranges ? The violence in Northern Ireland and the attacks against the Crown in England and the attacks against the World Trade Center, both on February 26, 1993 and September 11, 2001 are all acts of terrorism. And, on 9/11, it wasn't only attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon was successfully attacked and the White House was the intended target for the third aircraft.
And when it comes to standing up for freedom and fighting either the Communists then or international terrorism now, are we not at the forefront ? Many of us in America lost our innocence in VietNam and I assure you, our eyes are very wide open when it comes to fighting international terrorism.

"LESSING Says IRA Attacks Were Worse Than 9/11"
Nobel laureate Doris Lessing said the Sept. 11 attacks in the United States were "not that terrible" when compared to attacks by the IRA in Britain.
"September 11 was terrible, but if one goes back over the history of the IRA, what happened to the Americans wasn't that terrible," the Nobel Literature Prize winner told the Spanish daily EL Pais.
"Some Americans will think I'm crazy. Many people died, two prominent buildings fell, but it was neither as terrible nor as extraordinary as they think. They're a very naive people, or they pretend to be," she said.
Nearly 3,000 people were killed in the September 11 attacks. About 3,700 died and tens of thousands of people were maimed in more than 30 years of violence in Northern Ireland. The Irish Republican Army guerrilla group disarmed in 2005.
