Ever wonder why you were not hired for a job when you know you were qualified. Well it could of been related to a secret code on your DD 214, which were used up to the mid 70's.

Another slap in the face and total disregard for the Vietnam Vets constitutional rights. I remember being interviewed once and the guy slid out the small slot where he had a piece of paper posted. I asked what was that for? He replied "Oh this is just re-enlistment codes". I said well mine is RE-3B, which is for the 4 days bad time that's listed in the remarks, which means if I want to go back in I have to request a wavier in writing and I'd be back in within 30 days.

Well, I think I was wrong now that I recently found out about the SPIN codes that were included in all DD 214's.
It is located on the left side about 3 blocks down under
"TRANSFER OR DISCHARGE DATA" in the block that has
"REASON AND AUTHORITY".

On mine it has AR 635-200 SPN 201 ETS (the spn is my SPIN CODE) which is End of active duty.

However if you go to the site below it will expain the codes and list them all, from "BED WETTER" to "DISOBEDIENT". It also shows how to request for it to be removed now that someone has blown the whistle on them.

Also if you have an UNDESIREABLE DISCHARGE, it will give you the info to get it changed. I really could not believe this ****.

I went to the site and read all of the material and I must say that I am saddened by the obvious misuse of power by those in the military. The enfluence on our lives by those of us that are at their mercy and the continued abuse of public trust, by those that seem to act with no conscience, are two things that I will never understand. I will find my own DD-214 and see what is on mine and whatever it is, accurate or not, I will know for the first time what others in the government have presumed to say about me. This all leaves a very bad taste in my mouth, a taste that I last remember when I dealt with the Veterans Administration, and a taste that has become all too common when dealing with our government. Nothing surprises me any more, but I will admit that I am still disappointed when I think of all of the devious ways that our government tries to deceive us from the truth and how our government continues to demand more powers to protect us from foreign terrorists while all the while eroding our personal constitutional rights.

Yes, they do get away with it and much more. Who's to stop them ? Our checks and balances look good on paper, but the reality of the situation is very different.
Like all governments, ours gets away with far too much. They take advantage of our indifference and lack of participation and even our fears of retribution. The difficult part in this equation is knowing when we're getting screwed. The secrecy and lack of honesty and accountability by most federal officials, means that we often find out too little, too late, that our rights are being violated by the very agency sworn to protect and serve us. The great catch-22. Who's watching those who are watching the rest of us ? When pushed for answers, cover-ups and misdirection and denials are common and usually lead to stone-walling if all else fails. Our Veterans Administration and Immigration and Border Patrol and IRS are just a few examples of broken federal agencies that fall short of their goals and deny average Americans what they deserve. Border security is almost laughable, if there wasn't so much at stake. The immigration problem was encouraged and condoned by the Federal government for many years before it became too large a problem to deny. And the unfair and unequal taxation system represents special interests and the goals of a federal government out of control, not the fair treatment of the American citizen. And of course, the treatment of veterans is forever lacking. It is improving, but only because of the undeniable facts brought out lately by so much bad publicity and as usual, as soon as the stories disappear, so will the improvements I fear.
My faith in our system of democratic government, for the people, by the people, has always been taken for granted by those in power. What they fail to recognize is that the majority of American citizens, such as I, feel very disconnected and almost non-represented by our Federal elected representatives. My faith is in myself and the people of my country, not necessarily my government. Change will come, I hope sooner than later, but either way, I hope for a better world and a brighter future for my country.
