By the early 1st century AD, Rome was at her peak in terms of military strength.
The key to all that might was organization: recruitment, training, equipment and discipline.
The fundamental element was the infantry, the famous legionary.
Here is one of those famous warriors, carrying his own equipment; for that they were nicknamed Marius' Mule (after the man who introduced the norm that the soldier was to carry his own equipment).
