In one of the writing group I belong to, the home work was, 'I stood at the tomb of the Unknown Solider, but I knew him.'
One of the members wrote this which I think sums up the body inside the tomb of the Unknown Solider.
Silky
I stood at the tomb of the Unknown Solider, but I knew him
I didn't know his name, or the names of the relatives, or the friends, or maybe the wife or girlfriend or children that he left behind. I didn't know the name of his army buddy who always had his back until neither of them had backs left to have. I didn't know his favorite song, book, or color. I knew nothing about this unknown soldier's life, history, or soul.
But that didn't matter.
I knew him. I knew this unknown soldier's name; his name is Freedom. I know his relatives: pride, independence, sacrifice, blood, and tears. His friends are loyalty, courage, honor, and strength. His girl's name is love and his children are peace and joy. The one who always had his back is faith. He listened to and believed in The Star Spangled Banner, knew the power of the words in the Declaration of Independence, and loved the color that red, white and blue make when put into that certain pattern.
I stood at the tomb of the Unknown Solider and I knew him.
