Karl Bushby was born in 1969 in Hull, East Yorkshire, United Kingdom. He attended a local comprehensive school and joined the British Army at the age of 16. Karl served with the 3rd Battalion The Parachute Regiment for 11 years. He decided to leave the British Army in 1998 to follow his dream and walk round the world.
Karl had been planning the Goliath expedition for some years. With his military training and experience he was in an ideal position to undertake such a challenging and committed test of human endurance and strength.
Karl had hoped for a number of sponsors to back him on the marathon journey but unfortunately only a few sponsors were forthcoming. Paying his own way to South America Karl decided to go anyway and fund his journey on route.
'Goliath' The Expedition was born.
I've just finished reading this awesome book "Giant Steps" by Karl Bushby, and it's firing me up again about my own expedition project.
This ex-para has made an incredible journey through South America through to North America crossing the Bering Strait, and he is STILL WALKING!
