My friend has placed an Honourable Discharge certificate from WW1 on eBay go to the following site to see it.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Viewitem&item=180086426615&ssPageName=ADME:B:EF:UK:11
On her behalf I contacted the RAMC Museum and they didn’t want to purchase it, thought they are willing to accept it if the lady gives it to them. I know they don’t have one which makes me very angry
This certificate if in pristine condition and they are very hard to find, never mind in the condition this one is.

It will be purchased and then it will not see the light of day. rbo;
Silky,
I have an idea/suggestion. Why don't you ask your friend to sell it to you or if it's too late, then why don't you bid on it on Ebay and hopefully acquire it. After you have it in your posession, maybe some or many of us on here, can chip in and then you can donate it to the RMAC Museum. You can say it is from yourself and other members of Military Images.Net. I for one will donate whatever is appropriate, split between whatever amount of members here agree to such a noble proposition. Semper Fi

It's a good suggestion but when she had it valued by Sotheby’s a large well known Auction House, they valued it at £750 to £1,000 (1,460 to 1,945 USD) and therefore she’s placed a reserve price on the certificate which I’m not going to discuss over the internet, but its way past my pocket price.

Thats a real shame, pehaps she would be good enough to provide MI.Net a high resolution scan of the document and I will upload it, that way at least people will be able to see it, forever. If she provides us the scan before she sells it and I quote her as the Copyright holder, nobody will be able to complain. (Y)
Silky,
I had no idea, obviously, how expensive this endeavor might be. Of course the real value is far beyond the monetary amount it is appraised at. It is a shame indeed if this item slips away into the oblivion of private ownership. But like Andy says, maybe she will allow his request and if she does, many, many people all the world over will be able to view and appreciate a small piece of history that means so much to you. Is it too much to hope that the eventual buyer will have a sense of history & donate it to its rightful place in the museum?

That’s a great idea Bombardier, I will contact her. The item and medals were left to her and her brother in a will. You know how these things go when they are divided. We hit the problem of who has it, sometimes the only way out is to sell the object and split the proceeds.

I just put a low bid in, but was told that the reserve price was not meet.
Well I will keep watching to see if the reserve is meet.

on eBay the reserve can be any amount but it must start at £50, having seen war medal groups like this(not as good as) on sale before i can say it will probably sell well.

Though the medals are included with the lot it is the certificate that holds the value.

As of today (20th Feb) the bidding is at £77 and still the reserve has not been meet
Now at £112 and still reserve not meet. Only 1 day left for bidding.

I will be contacting the Firepower museum very soon , to donate the certificate and medal, This is where it should be.
The purchase cost just short of £37, I am a bit dissapointed that it was seen by the EBAY viewers to be woth so little, but happy that it did not cost that much to enable me to place it where it belongs.
If anybody wishes (as earlier indicated) to assist with the cost then please donate via our DONATE button, but dont go mad, it was won for only £37.
Perhaps it would be prudent for those who wish to donate, to let me know first and then I can break it down. Obviously it wont be much.
Im sorry that I couldnt save the RAMC discharge certificate, it was way out of my price range, but at least we saved one of the many being flirted around as if they are just a piece of paper worth nothing.
I salute you all. sal; 303_no4
Well done, Bombardier. Count me in as one of the contributers. When all is said and done, let me know the amount and we'll work out the logistics later.

Thanks 03Fox2/1
I doubt it will be a lot of money, clearly people feel very strongly about this sort of thing, and rightly so.
Of course I will display proof of purchase and receipt by the FIREPOWER museum.
This is the Official List of Donaters
