I'm a big fan of SPWAW a tactical level turn based Armoured Combat game it is available for free DL and IMO is quite realistic.

Good day,

I'm providing two links: one is for Steel Panthers WWII and other is for Steel Panthers World at War. SPWWII is for WIN and is stable, and dispite the site having a CD for sale, you can play the free DL and never need the extra stuff on the CD. SPWAW is Dos Based but runs OK on WIN, but save every turn in case of a crash (some have had no problems). Both are great, WAW plays a little faster than WWII, WWII is graphically a little more pleasing. Gameplay for both is mostly the same, but their are differences.

and

http://www.spwaw.com/ then DL the Final Version

Any problems or questions Email me or add to thread

Cheers

I have played SP I & II when they were dos games and I have tried these new win versions too. It was a good game back then and it seems it still is, even though RTS games are now more popular. brad;

cover; I'm still in love with SP, I beleive because I cut my teeth on board games, plus I like the ability to command companies and battalions in combat. I find RTS interesting but they don't hold my interest, guess I'm still a Grognard at heart, there's nothing like a two month long campaign game.

Have you played Close Combat series? Those are RTS but actually quite good. Only thing which bothers me in CC is some Line Of Sight issues, there's trees and building which have effect but no hills.
We could clash against each other in SP some day?

It has a lot of buttons and might look too complicated at first, but after you learn them, the game feels totally different. And because it's turn based, it leaves enough time to think and react for us "old" guys.
D** , it looks like I have to download it again, lost it during my HD clean up.

BTW, there's also win version of SP2 which covers all modern equipment. Have to look up where to download that. (OK, here it is: http://shrapnelgames.com/SPCamo/wSPMBT/1.htm )

Good day,Bomber,
I beleive like was stated the buttons my seem a little daunting at first, however, most of the actual game play is point and click, in so far as action goes. Some buttons are just game and unit info, some only come into play during setup during random and campaign games. I think Bomber, you'll like the arty aspect to it.

Mineman,
I would certainly welcome a human opponent again. I used play by Email years ago, but, it seemed, opponents would quit before the senario played out, or just stop sending their turns. I think a lot of them were kids with no gasp of tactics. Just let me know when you would like to try to hand me my ass on a platter, I have all versions of SP accept the newer MBT versions. WWII and WWII what if are my forte.

Sorry PB, that this has taken so much time, but I'm right now downloading SP WAW version 8.20, so let me know when we can have that battle. I will also download Modern Tank version as soon as I can find it.

I have SPWAW Generals edition v 8.4. I've only played solitaire games. I used to be a big ASL (advanced squad leader board game) fan. I was really hoping SPWAW would be ASL on computer but there are a lot of differences that bu me.... Still a great game!

ASL is how I ended up going to SP, human opponents completely dried up. I play winSPWWII these days, but have played every version out.

Welcome aboard Lynx Cat, it's an enjoyable site.

BTW there are a few SPWAW Wallpapers in my Albums.
