I’ve written about the different factories in the town I now live in, which is my wife’s place of birth. Well here a video of the town and on the right you will see some other views that you can watch.

In the fourth century, Gainsborough was a port and trading place. The Norse people came to trade here and one of the words they left behind was ‘Aegir’ and it’s their word for large wave.

At high tide the sea pushes the River Trent backwards and it finally stops at Newark on Trent in Nottinghamshire. However, Gainsborough is still the furthest inland port in the UK and is 38 miles from the sea. Though trade as reduced, we still get ships coming to unload timber for the local timber yard.

The old warehouses and factories along the River Trent have now been changed into flats. But not just for the rich. The local council stated that if they where changed into flats then fifty flats had to be at low rent and made available for pensioners, so they could spent their twilight years with panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.

I hope you enjoy the video.
