The RAF’s only airworthy Lancaster aircraft is to benefit from a new lick of paint under a £500,000 contract with Atlantic Airmotive Ltd.
The major maintenance contract will enable the Lancaster to continue to grace the skies until the next maintenance period is due in around eight years time.
The work will include a complete paint strip and repaint, changing its current 'Mickey the Moocher' paint scheme and replacing the aircraft's flying control rods. It should take around six months and be completed by the end of March 2007. The contract was awarded by the Nimrod Integrated Project Team, which manages the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.

The work will take place over winter 2006 at Atlantic’s base, Coventry Airport. Atlantic Airmotive, part of the Air Atlantique Group, will supply the infrastructure and support services, but management of the project and the provision of engineering personnel will be provided by Classic Aircraft Maintenance under a sub-contract.
The Lancaster will sport the nose art from 'Phantom of the Ruhr' of 100 Sqn.
