This evening, I’ve just watched on BBC TV 18: 00 News, a convoy of trucks in Iraq being ambushed and one of the drivers murdered. The whole events where recorded by one of the civilian drives on video.

The military leader of the convoy could not read his map and took the wrong turning and lead the convoy into a village filled with insurgents. The road through the village was a dead end and so the vehicles had to turn around and come back through the village where the enemy was now waiting for them. When the bullets started flying the five America escort vehicles took off leaving two articulated vehicles stuck in the village. The military commander still in contact with the civilian drivers radios to say he’d come back to rescue them when the firing had stopped.

The first driver was stuck in his cab and was shot dead while the second carried on filming and waiting to die.

To me, this whole episode was a disgrace and I believe that the soldiers involved should be punished for the conduct.

Hmmm something definately appears to be wrong there but...... not being there personally I will wait for the result of the enquiry.

That truck driver kept himself pretty cool under fire though, good man (Y)

Hold on there, IFB. Ya can't totally blame him. This is a matter of personal courage and sense of duty. I don't blame the one that tasked them to do the job, I DO BLAME THE ONES THAT RAN! The military convoy got them lost, true. But then they ran and left the convoy to fend for themselves.

This even is not only traget but criminal in my opinion! The Commander who stated he would come back for a rescure after the firing stopped shold be tried, convicted of cowardness under fire in a combat zone, leaving his command to be killed by the enemy, and any other charges the Army could bring against him. I don't see how the survivors could continue to follow this persons command. I say uzi, the bastards!

I put this scenario to a friend recently and hes not the kind of guy to be "GUNG HO" but his reply in brief was......" If they all couldnt run from the bullets then nobody should have" and although I am an Armchair warrior now , I agree with him.
