I dont know if anybody remembers or has looked at my scans of a book issued to a soldier called Ralph Rennie of the Manchester Regiment WW1found here (http://www.militaryimages.net/photopost/showgallery.php/cat/634). Well I have contacted the Manchester Regiment Museum today and offered the book to them for their archives. they were very excited about receiving it and I have made plans to give it to them next week.

This type of book was issued to soldiers of the British Army so they could record their service history. It would appear from my conversation with the curator that Ralph Rennie was part of a Bantam Battalion, these battalions were made up of people who did not meet the required height to join other units.Ralph may have transfered from the Manchester Regiment to the SWB, which I believe is the South wales Borderers?, or something similar (I will clarify this with them when I go to see them).

Thats awesome Bombardier sir...I have ALOT of manuals still from when I was active and National Guard but I don't think I still have my original SMART book as they were called when I was in basic. I had to carry that thing everywhere...it was always in my cargo pocket ready to be taken out whenever we had down time. If a drill sergeant caught you not reading it during down time he would make you pay. It usually cost you about 25 push ups minimum. So, mine was always in my hand during down time whether I was reading it or not.
