The Ministry of Defence is to seek pardons for all 300 World War I
soldiers who were shot for cowardice.
The announcement was made by Defence Secretary Des Browne on Tuesday.
He said: "I am conscious of how the families of these men feel. They have had
to endure a stigma for decades. That makes this a moral issue too.

My Comments: About time to.
I would think by now the stigmas would be gone. In the states WWI is ancient history, and WWII is becoming that way as the members who fought in that war pass a way with time.
I don't know how English culture still views WWI. It seems the shadows of that war still lingers over England.

In my mind mate they are not shadows, they are blinding lights that attempt to guide us along the right path. Unfortunately the PC Brigade have stopped the teaching of such subjects in the way they should be taught and as such the kids of today have no idea how lucky they really are.
Shadows ?, No...not in my mind anyway, but I know what you mean (Y)

I wholeheartedly agree. There are still living relatives of these victims of injustice, who have lived their whole life with this terrible knowledge. Here's how the Shot At Dawn Campaign reported the news:

The execution of Private Harry Farr continues to generate considerable indignation and sympathy. The Army Chaplain, who attended his execution, sent a message of condolence via the local vicar to Farr's widow in which he declared that a finer soldier never lived. He also revealed that Farr refused to be blindfolded when shot.
He is another with no known grave. It is one of those cases that aptly demonstrates the sheer incompetence and neglect of those who were in charge. Not only that, it is evidence of a blatant hypocrisy when compared to the case of an officer named St. Brocr. .............Read More (http://www.shotatdawn.org.uk/page13.html)
A sad sad story.
But a finer and braver soldier I doubt we will ever hear of. sal;
