Idar Oberstein is made up of two towns, funnily enough IDAR and OBERSTEIN.
I visited both areas but found the most pleasant to be Oberstein.
Heres a couple of pictures

Felsenkirche (Rock-Church)
Just as a point of interest
The 1400s Protestant Felsenkirche (Rock-Church) is built right into the face of the cliff 214 steps and 165 feet above the Oberstein Marktplatz, and just below the Old Castle of the Earl of Oberstein that’s perched on the very top of the hill. Legend says Wyrich pushed his brother Emich out of a castle window, then built the chapel on the ledge where his brother’s body had landed. They had — what else! — fought over a beautiful lady named Bertha.
Great Place solthum

If you ever go here you must try the Speisbraten, its a steak of pork or beef marinated in Onions and spices which is then grilled over an open wood pit. The wood is oak and some other type of local wood. The result is a lovely smokey piece of meat, very rich but very tasty.
I ate loads of them and washed them down with Bitburger and schnapps.
