Matzos what is in this box?

Matzos

In fact Polar under all that netting are 5 'cabins'
It is a mobile film processing section, we have a colour film processing machine in one (the only one in NATO), a printing/film loading darkroom in another, a film viewing cabin and two control (offices) cabins, they are all linked together. (I will post some pictures of the insides soon)

They can be fitted onto lorries, but these were air lifted into theatre by an AN-124.

Inside the cabins:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v312/matzos/control2.jpg
This inside the first control cabin, this is where
I book all the recce sorties in.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v312/matzos/control1.jpg
Now looking from the first control cabin
into the second one, as you can see we use
this one as a mini tea bar. (the processing
cabin can be seen at the end)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v312/matzos/print1.jpg
This is the paper print cabin, on the left, the
blue machine is part of the contact printer.
The white box on the top right is the paper
processor.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v312/matzos/proc1.jpg
now looking in the flim processing are, the
processor can be seen in front and takes up
most of the cabin space. the machine will process
a 9inch wide by 250 foot long roll of colour film
in just under 2 hours. very hot work.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v312/matzos/view.jpg
The last of the cabins is film viewing, this is
where I check the films after processing.

Just a couple of pictures taken outside the cabins.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v312/matzos/outside.jpg
here you are looking at the second control cabin, with the
paper printing on the left.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v312/matzos/printoutside.jpg
this one is film viewing to the right and the first control cabin
(my office) to the front.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v312/matzos/tent1.jpg
And lastly, the good old 12 x 12 tent used as storeroom

Hi mate

Not another ex-Air Phot are you druid ian?

You got to love ATREL's, this will be their last deployment as we know them, before they are either scrapped or handed over to peolpe to be used as storerooms.

I'm from Brampton, working behind the wire and in the dark for a number of years.

So whats your story druid_ian?

E by gum lad, in my day it was all into a black bag, zip it up, then place your arms in each side upto your elbows and mess about for five minutes untill the film was in the developing pot.

All this while up to your neck in muck and bullets. E it was tough.

Thanks druid_ian, it looks like I missed you on all my tours by one, I would have been in JARIC in 83 (upstairs), but my wife worked in the ground section in the GAO during the early part of this year (we left for Germany in 84)

Glad to find another Air Phot solthum like wise!

Back at Marham we are have 4 Versmats (for B&W processing), 2 of which are in ATREL's, we are using C41 colour on this trip and getting great results. The PR9 is due to leave service in July 06, this is it's last deployment.

Hi Druid –Ian,

I get a lot of poetry from your establishment. There should be a poster in the library for this year’s competition that I run.

I've got a nephew out there at the moment, working with the Aegis Specialist Risk Management. I think they're contracted to the US DoD.
