Hi peeps
Just thought I would remind everybody about how images can be included on our site.
Upload them to the relevant gallery
attach them to a forum post with the built in attachment feature
attach them to a post by linking from your own server space
attach them to a forum post by using one of the many free image hosts out there. All I ask is that if you use an image from another site that does not specificaly give permission to use them, be courteous and ask them for permission first.
Please do not Hotlink to images on anothers site. For those that do not know what hotlinking is....it is the practice of obtaining the url such as http://www.militaryimages.net/image.jpg (http://www.militaryimages.net/image.jpg) and pasting it into the post so the image only is displayed. This has the effect of making it look like the image is hosted on our site but using the bandwidth of the host site. Some websites let you do this such as the Free image hosts mentioned earlier.
If you are using your own images tell everybody they are yours and
If you will allow them to be posted on other sites
If you wish the imaged used to quote you as the source or indeed MilitaryImages.net as the source (which would be nice too)In conclusion there is enough space on our servers to accomadate your images, in time I may have to start paying extra for the added web space and bandwidth usage, but for now we are ok.
Footnote, none of our images hosted on our servers can be hotlinked as I have blocked them using some cunning code, however in the near future I am considering the use of an automatic watermarking system that will place a small line of semi transparent text such as "Hosted by www.militaryimages.net" once this is done I will be allowing the hotlinking of images as I feel the advertising of our site will outweigh the bandwidth costs incurred.
anyway feel free to post your pics on MI.net, lets keep military history alive by getting those pics of yourselves, fathers, brothers, mothers, sisters etc etc out of the shoe boxes and on the world wide web for all to see.
Regards
Your most grateful Bombardier
