Nice pics Matzos, Monte Casino was a nice place until the Allies bombed the hell out of it, a shame but necessary I suppose.

The problem was after the allies had fattened the area, the Germans moved into Monte Casino. It is my understanding that the Germans had none or very few troops inside Casino before the bombing raids. It became an excellent place to defend and took a great deal of allied lives to take.

I heard that the germans had started to move into it long before the allies were there, but then on the italian campaign, it was the only thing stopping the allies from making it to italy. It turns out if the Allies hadnt bombed it, the germans were going to take a bunch of those troops to normandy the next day. The germans would have won the war.

I doubt there would have been enough troops there to have made such a difference ?
