Hi everyone,

my name is James, and am currently living in Cologne in Deutschland. I'm a British citizen, born in the Netherlands, spent my first eight years in Guernsey before emmigrating with my parents to South Africa in 1974. In 1988, when civil unrest within South Africa could no longer be overlooked, and Cuban troop strength in Angola was at it's maximum, I was conscripted into the 1st South African Infantry Battalion for 2 years. Those were rough times for us politically misinformed white conscripts.

South Africa's war in Angola is not well documented, and if this subject interests you, you can read all about it on my website www.sa-soldier.com (http://www.sa-soldier.com).

This is a great site guys, keep up the good work!

Peace!

Howzit Ratel!

Welcome to the site.

Nice to have another Saffa on-board, even better to have another mechanised boytjie!

I was conscripted in 1986 to 1 Special Services Battalion, but managed to get into the School of Armour, Tempe. I completed JL's and then got posted to 4 SAI. Spent 1987 in Lohatla and then Angola for Operation Moduler (Veggroup Charlie - the Ratel 90 anti tank squadron, with the 32 Battalion boys on board to make up the infantry!)

Really enjoy your web-site. It brings back some memories...
