Highly anticipated next-generation OS "Longhorn" or - after the latest official announcements (http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/News/Details.aspx?NewsId=14545)- "Vista", will feature sophisticated A/V output content protection mechanisms, if not lock down the PC as someone would say, in an effort to comply to entertainment industry demands.

According to Microsoft, the protection of High-definition content is essential in order to offer the user the chance to manage and share digital media content across the traditional PC/CE boundaries. HD displays are now becoming available in the mass market, the content producers do not want to release this content for use on the PC without assurances that it will be protected against unauthorized copying and distribution. The challenge to Microsoft and the hardware community is to meet both of these (sometimes conflicting) needs with a high-quality.

is actually nothing more than XP again... just with some more add-ons with the virtual aero interface as the main thing.

you can download this stuff from their site... you can even strip XP into what used to be NT...

I didn't work with vista because i don't think it will ever beat XP... probably the next one will be...

also, they should have changed the file table system in something more database style to increase security etc...

but what DOES a new version actually MEAN ???? when installing OLDER OS on NEWER PC's the performance will be superb...

Daughter installed Vista, Now we can't get rid of it. Microsoft (refuses) to help. Most people tell me trash the hard drive and put in a new one with windows XP that is better but still buggie!
((( OR ))) Get UBUNTU that will operate almost ALL operating systems and the best thing it is (completly-FREE). Sound like an advertisement huh...

I have seen it work it never locks up NEVER. And works and looks like windows but smoother. Reliable. Free. Just different file extentions.
This could give windows a run for there money.

But I still wish I could get rid of this Vista thing It made half the programs she has quit working. Just can't find any strong/reliable/definate directions seems all directions I get are suggestions with a hint of knowledge.

Oh well guess I gotta keep on punting.

My friend runs a computer shop and the number of people that come into his shop with Vista problems is unbelievable. He cleans off the hard drive and installs XP.

When Vista first came out he tried it and like you said, it would not allow him to use half of his programs.
