I was surprised to find that I had to open a new thread in order to carry on the existing one . Probably a good reason , so never mind .
STORIES?
I have a load of them .
Here's one to show the mentality prevailing during National Service time , and is typical of the attitude of the day , and must have put a lot of people off "signing on "
I am just back from leave , 1956 , and look at Station Routine Orders .There , I spot a notice asking for volunteers for a special duty .The notice is a fortnight old .So I go to the Discip Flight Sergeant through whom applications must be made .
" Flight , am I too late to apply for that posting?"
"Wossit say on the order , lad ?"
"There's a posting......." (stops because FS going red and glaring .
"NO .WOSSIT SAY ON THE ORDER ABOUT APPLYING? NOW GO AND READ IT PROPERLY AND THEN COMEBACKEREGORRIT?"
A little later , me , beginning to regret things
"Flight , it says apply via Discip on a General Application Form "
"Right ,eerzaform ,GOANFILLITIN!!!!!!"
20 minutes later -form filled in
"Right , Flight , here's my General App. "
Flight Sergeant tears up Gen App , and says
"Post's filled , bugger off "

Thats just about right for the Military mind.

a lot of the sargents i've met seem to have a strange philosophy, which states "why make life hard, when with a little planing I can make bloody difficult".
