My mate is forty eight years of age, did twenty four years service and retired on a full pension last year and was he mighty p****d off when he got called up last month! Can anyone beat that? and would you go if required, regardless of age?

Im only 39 years young,if I was called up they would probably have to spend years reminding me what I did when I was in the Artillery. If they did call me up (which I doubt they will) I would go, my wife would not be too happy about it though. sal; army;

My father, a LTCMDR in the WWII Pacific Fleet, got recalled for Korea when he was about 39 or 40. Luckily it ended before he had to go.

YEEEOWWWW!

Did he hold some kind of critical, highly skilled job? What branch of service was he in?

Like Drywall said, this happened to quite a few of our guys during Korea. I don't recall ever hearing about this happening to anyone during Nam, though.

If called, I would be willing to go if my country felt that they needed my service. At 57, I don't know how effective I would be at my old job, though. I know I still have the intestinal fortitude, and slight mental condition :lol:, to jump from a perfectly good airplane while in flight, but it might be alittle rough keeping up with those young troopers once on the ground. Maybe they should just use me as an instructor. I can still YELL pretty good :mrgreen: .

As it happens my mate is a medic and traditionally in previous wars , sorry - disturbances, more often than not medic units were the only ones called up in the British army because of the shortage of trained personnel. Obviously when battle plans are made up the projected casualties are thankfully a lot less than predicted and they are left kicking their heels. I'm 37 and when I was called up last year I had 3 different regiments after my services!

Just how long are you subject to recall? I did 3 years active duty and 3 years of inactive reserve. I got my final discharge after 6 years. As far as I know, enlisted personnel aren't subjected to any more call ups after that.

As an aside, I attended a unit reunion last Sept. Some of the guys told me that they had to do 2 years of active reserve duty followed by 1 year of inactive to get their 6 year obligation in. One of them said the army dang near had to arrest him to get him in active reserve. I never heard a word about it after I was seperated from active service in '68. It seemed as though it almost depended on which state you lived in.
