Lost book!

Now this is a long shot for any bookworms out there.
About fifteen years ago I read about two chapters of a book about the army career of a British Para, (fact or fiction I can,t remember but it read like a novel) It started off at the end when the old soldier walked away from his depot and was reflecting on his life. I really got into it but one of my illiterate Gun crew used it for toilet paper and I never saw it again.
Nothing much to go on I'm afraid but it has bugged me for so long and I would appreciate any help.

I think this book is now published by Andrex. I remember the synopsis " Soft Strong and thoroughly absorbent". :D

It was always going to be softer than army bog roll. But not as good as comfy bum! Ideas for another thread!
