Who was the highest ranking officer killed at Gettysburg?

What was his rank?

Was it Major General William D Pinder? I don't know much about these times, but wasn't Custer a part of this battle?

I think you are right, ZOFO, I think it was Reynolds who was killed early in the battle. Our illustrious moderator will shortly reward you. (unless we are both wrong)

Custer was a young officer on somebodies staff. An interesting story about him tells about the pompous staff officers riding to the bank of a river and trying to out military the other in determining the depth of the river, Custer simply spurs his horse into the middle, turns and says, "It's this deep, General."
