Fierce clashes near Baquba in Iraq have left 13 insurgents dead, according to the US military.
Maj Neal O'Brien of the US 1st Infantry Division said the militants were killed after attacking Iraqi National Guardsmen and police, and US forces.
Baquba's main hospital, however, said it had received only one body and nine wounded from the clashes.
Maj O'Brien said there were no casualties among Iraqi or US forces in the fighting.
During the operation, in the town of Buhriz near Baquba, US and Iraqi forces searched palm groves and destroyed an area that had been used to launch attacks on coalition and Iraqi troops, the spokesman said.
They were attacked with small arms and then mortar fire, and replied in kind, he added.
