Did you serve in Dortmund?

Hi all

Did you serve in the many Arty. Regts. that were part of Dortmund Garrison? I'm trying to compile as much information as possible about the barracks, who served there as part of BAOR, the former Occupation Forces (many infantry units formed in Dortmund) and of course when the barracks were occupied by the Werhmacht prior and during WW2. The Flak Regts. defending Dortmund, the many other troops and the Luftwaffe in Richthofen Kaserne, Dortmund's first Airport (Napier Barracks). Obviously the other barrack's names would of been different during Werhmacht's presence.

So, any information great or small, would be most appreciated. Photos, stories etc. etc.

Hopefully I may then have as much info to turn into a web-site or even a publication? what ever the outcome, I need your help.

I have a fair bit of info on Napier having served there and I was initially going to do just this barrack's history, but I think Dortmund's past stretches further and far beyond this former airfield and I'm sure former gunners of Dortmund would agree!

I didnt understand your text correctly.Could you write again what you'd like to know ? I live in Frankfurt as I said, but i'm born in Hagen ,what is next to Dortmund ,and my grandafather was in a Flak Regiment here, perhaps I could find something out.So,tell me what do u wann know ?

Dortmund was a very Big British Artillery Garrison after the war and upto around 1993/4 I think he is just asking if any of the Ex British soldiers remember Dortmund. I would love to know more about your Grandfather though. :mrgreen:

Edit sorry I have just read the text again, it seems he would like to know anything about Dortmund including the German Flak Regiments of WW2. o-

Quite right, Dortmund was a huge Arty Garrison, but also housed non Arty Regts. after the war as Occupation Forces. Plus, Wehrmacht units during WW2, which were stationed in the barracks that housed these British units.

So, anything at all, about Dortmund's military past - please, even the Flak Regts.
